Judge's Comments:
The composition drew me into this painting .To take a subject , In this case a girl in a Kimono , that has been done many times and make it unique is an accomplishment . The red interior of the sleeves mimics a shape of wings which ties narratively and visually into the design embroidered on the kimono depicting birds in flight . I love paintings that are well executed and simultaneously give a hint of a narrative. - Michelle Dunaway
