Judge's Comments:One of the main goals in portraiture, to me, is to capture not only the likeness , but convey the unique personality of the subject as well . I felt this portrait had such a strength to it because not only were all the essentials there; correct anatomy and structure, values, drawing ,etc , but I could feel the emotion and personality of the subject permeate so strongly through the painting. There is a strength to this painting that reminds me of the paintings of Robert Henri. - Michelle Dunaway
