Judge's Comments:
For being such a large painting I really enjoyed how painterly David kept this piece. Usually, when working in this size the tendency would be to relish in the details and add more. However, Shelvino stays true to his style and just gives us enough detail to keep our eye busy while working through the piece. The shadows on the body are well done and I enjoy the green of the mask balancing out but not getting lost in the abstract green of the background. What makes this work is the detail around the lower face and mouth, which ties it all together and gives us a central focus in the right area. - Joshua Rose
