Bull Market
by Howard Friedland
Oil 8.75 x 15

Entered in: 6th Annual Competition Month #8- July 2012

Judge's Comments: This color infused, sun-drenched image is reminiscent of a Sorolla painting. The rich, dark colors used to depict the bull are saturated with delectable mauves, rich blues and subtle ochres. I love how the bold contrast of the bull against the luminescent greys and ochres of the surrounding background creates a stunning silhouette. The beautiful blue highlight placed on the rump of the bull is subtle yet effective. The warm colors of the ground bouncing off the bullís belly are equally enticing! The thick and juicy application of paint coupled with the rhythmic, graceful directional brush strokes beautifully depict the strength, brute force and musculature of this gallant beast. - Jennifer McChristian
