Lime with Tea Pot and Cherry
by Larry Clingman
Oil 12" x 9"

Entered in: 6th Annual Competition Month #8- July 2012

Judge's Comments: The strong and beautifully balanced composition of this striking still life immediately caught my eye. The handling of tone, color and texture is superb! The artist captured the still life objects so eloquently and infused them with a personality of their own. The fruits and teapot remind me of the characters from a Shakespearean play, projecting their lines on a stage under a solitary spotlight. The contrasting red cherry and green lime draw our attention like two leading characters in this play. The objects seem to quietly emerge from darkness into light, depicting a sense of mystery, drama and intrigue. A touch of ripe color balances nicely with the silvery cool greys of the elegant teapot. The surface quality and impasto texture on the highlights give this painting a sculpted, three dimensional quality. A beautifully executed and poetic translation of seemingly simple, everyday objects. Well done! - Jennifer McChristian
