Drama Magnifico by James Van Fossan

Judge's Comments: I love this piece. Itís overwhelming in both size and content. It has a classical feel and yet it is very modernist. Itís the perfect combination of past, present and future. - George Gallo

A Peaceful Moment by Mark Boedges
14 x 20 Oil

Judge's Comments: This is a beautiful painting. I have a weakness for winter scenes. Itís very contemplative and feels like a fleeting moment in time. Again, this is the best of past and present. It recalls the work of John F. Carlson and Richard Schmid but it also has a very strong voice of its own. Just fantastic. - George Gallo

Judge's Comments: I love this painting. I love the fact that it is a celebration of contradictions. The light feels warm and upbeat, yet the characters seem to have long faces. Beautifully rendered and terrific values and color. - George Gallo

HOMEWARD BOUND 2 by David Tutwiler

Judge's Comments: This painting is wonderfully moody and full of both emotion and motion. Thereís something old school about it, reminding me a bit of N.C. Wyeth and at the same time it feels very modern. Fantastic. - George Gallo

I've had a good life by Tony Pro
20 x 30 Oil

Judge's Comments: A beautiful, quiet, reflective moment. I love the fact that the main subject is sitting so far to the right of the piece, creating a great deal of negative space, allowing the viewer to dream along with the subject. Great use of warms and cools. - George Gallo

My Mom by Shana Levenson
24 x 18 Oil

Judge's Comments: Iím fascinated by this painting. For some reason, it makes me laugh. I also sense a lot of sadness and tragedy in this womanís face. I could look at her expression (and have) for a very long time. I love the soft use of light. - George Gallo

Paradise Found by Elizabeth Pollie
10 x 10 Oil

Judge's Comments: This is a wonderful, airy piece. Floating clouds are one of the hardest things to paint. These clouds have volume and life. Even though it is somewhat loosely painted, it is still very well constructed. First rate drawing skills along with great color and value. - George Gallo

Early Snow by Bob Beck
16 x 20 Oil

Judge's Comments: Since I studied with a Russian painter, I have a weakness for anything in this style. It reminds me a bit of Bongart. Beautiful, choppy strokes. Great color and design. Terrific combination of warms and cools. - George Gallo

Work A Day by Suzie Baker
20 x 16 Oil

Judge's Comments: This is a terrific figure study. Great use of light, keeping much of the face in darkness. Again, what I love so much about this piece is that it has roots in classical painting and is still very much the work of a modernist representational artist. Just great work. Itís not just a rendering of a person, I feel that the figure is alive and I feel his weight. - George Gallo
