Issues by Hunter Eddy
100 cm x 85 cm Oil

Judge's Comments: As far as portraits go, this one stands out the most for me because of the tension in the sitter's eyes. All the life in a portrait lies in the eyes and Hunter has nailed it here. The technical aspects of draftsmanship and composition are top notch here and this was an easy shoe in as far as I am concerned. Beautifully composed and beautifully painted. The uneasiness of the sitter tells me so much about the person and Hunter is not afraid to tell it like it is. - Tony Pro

Docked by Derek Penix
8 x 8 Oil

Judge's Comments: This little gem caught my eye right off the bat. It is so freshly painted and confident. I can tell that Derek has painted from life and knows his medium and this subject speaks to the freshness it was painted in. This is the reason to paint alla prima and Derek's confident strokes really pay off for this statement. - Tony Pro

Tom Poynor by Lynn Sanguedolce
21 x 16 Oil

Judge's Comments: Portraiture is very difficult to really capture the human spirit. Lynn's portrait really shows the character and spirit of her sitter and I was really drawn to what she has put into this painting. The sitter's right eye has so much life in it and it really pulls me into the painting. I see very strong value control in this painting which is something everyone should strive for. I see a lot of influence of 19th century artistry here but I also see Lynn come through it as well. - Tony Pro

Derek: Contemplation in the Studio by David Tanner
36 x -

Judge's Comments: There is a lot of emotion in this painting. I love the color and how it really speaks about an artist to an artist. It's the never ending thoughtful gaze of artist that really speaks to me because I have been here and you can really get the emotion that David has put into this. I love the composition as well. - Tony Pro

Copper by David Cheifetz
- x 8 Oil

Judge's Comments: I love the real graphic nature of this still life and the powerful use of edges and color to keep my eye moving through this piece. I am always pulled toward strong, graphical solutions in painting from my background of being a graphic designer for 20 years. This juicy piece satisfies many needs of mine and it is an exciting piece to look at for something so 'still'! - Tony Pro
